Various manufacturing processes create many hazardous substances, which can be dangerous to human beings. Soldering fumes and laser emissions are two examples. Due to their small sizes, the particles penetrate deeply into the bloodstream and can cause serious diseases. Filter and extraction systems protect you from these hazardous substances by sucking them in. They remain in the filter so they can no longer be inhaled. These particles would also attach to the machines, potentially blocking some mechanisms within them. Hence, the contaminated air does not remain that way or spread more and harm other people, a TBH filter and extraction system protects the environment as well. It is a triple protection in one system - for people, the environment and the machine.
TBH filter and extraction systems capture contaminated air and lead it through the filter elements, which are suitable to your working process. Dusts, smokes and gases release harmful particles, which the systems’ various filters, like main filter, HEPA filter and activated carbon, extracts. Afterwards the system leads the cleaned air back into the room or to the exterior.
Generally, all particles and particle sizes can be sucked in by a TBH filter and extraction system. The user of the system has to observe directives, laws, guidelines and technical rules like explosion protection, dangerous particles, health protection, etc., which are valid in the respective countries.
There is a vast collection of extraction arms, hoses, pipe form divider, adapter, plug, security elements, etc., which you can find in our accessory catalogue. Our sales team advises you on your individual solution.
Yes. Due to our modular design, our powerful INSPIRE control electronics und our diverse accessory articles, we can adapt our systems individually to meet your requirements fully.
There is no problem to put our systems into control cabinets, cabinet bases or cases. TBH systems are all equipped with the INSPIRE control electronic, which comes with a powerful digital and manual automation interface.
That depends on the respective system and its requirements. Please read the conformity declaration in the operating and maintenance instructions of your system.
TBH only uses high-quality blowers from famous market leaders. Almost all systems these days are equipped with a brushless electronic commuted engine, which can operate several thousand hours and allows a high efficiency and power. The runtime of these blowers are depending on several aspects. Examples for that are the power, with which the systems operate the number of start and stop processes, and the surrounding requirements. Due to this reason, it is not possible to make a general statement.
The process air will be led back into the room generally, or can be led to the exterior in especially severe processes with hazardous materials. The advantage of recirculated process air is that it is heated during filtration, i.e. when going through the filter and extraction system. This can save heating costs.
Generally, the systems are fully assembled and safely packed, partly delivered on pallets. After connecting the system to power, it is immediately ready to operate. The assembly is made tool-less due to the modular design. Tools could be required for accessory items such as extraction arms, which are assembled afterwards. When requested, we can offer the assembly as part of our services.
We generally dispatch our compact systems of the LN, GL and BF series, including our standard accessories, within 14 days. We usually dispatch larger systems, like the LN 600 or FP 200, within five to six weeks.
The TBH guarantee varies, depending on the system, between 5,000 and 10,000 operating hours, or two years after delivery date, depending which of these happens earlier. Our guarantee normally excludes a user-related liability and consequential damages. This is not the case when we have approved the project-related requirements.
In general operation, the only costs for a filter and extraction system are when buying a replacement filter, the power usage, disposal of the filter and pressure air usage (only with systems of the FP series). The amount of the costs depends on the size of the system, the aiming process and the system’s settings.
A coal engine is an inexpensive universal engine like you might know from your drill or vacuum cleaner. The power for the engine movement is lead through two contacts using coal brushes to the rotor. These brushes wear off by the time.
A permanent engine does not need any coal brushes. Other kinds of permanent engines are electronic commuted engines, short EC engines. These differ strongly in the construction from other engine kinds. They mostly have powerful neodymium magnets at the rotor, and generate their rotating field by using several windings, which are controlled by a control electronic one by one via a PWM modulation. The results are higher rotating speeds, power densities, and efficiency compared to universal engines and inducted ones. TBH almost completely uses powerful and efficient EC engines.
Further kinds of permanent engines are induction engines for 400 V turn power, which are used in the industry. Due to the rotating field, which contactless induced power by wrapping around a package of metal sheet of the rotor. Due to that, a turning moment is created and the engine runs. This kind of engine can be used with the help of an additional condenser even with 230 V.
The free-blowing air volume stream indicates how much air power can be generated by the engine unit or the blower, when there is no opposite pressure (resistors in form of filters or hoses), that are put on suck in and out settings. When placing the filter units into the system afterwards, the working point of the blower is changing to a lower resistor. It has to generate a higher pressure to overcome the resistors. The effective air volume stream sets in. It can differ, depending on the filter equipment. Particle and pre filter generate a low loss of pressure, which increases by time because of natural saturation. The activated carbon filter has a high-pressure loss but it does not continue increasing. When adding additional elements like hoses or extraction arms, especially when they are too small, the pressure losses continue increasing and the actual air volume stream is smaller than the free blowing or the effective one.
We are generally in favor to council our customers as best as possible and support you by giving optimal advice to your buying decision. This includes, depending on the system’s size, live performances, and special conditions formajor projects, product videos and much more. Please keep in mind that larger systems like the LN 600 and FP 200 series are not available for live performances or as testing systems.
No. TBH stands for high customer service and individual advising by our qualified and motivated sales team, who is by your side in each phase of your process as a competent partner.
Filter and extraction systems on modern precisely processes ensure the quality of your products and protect your employees and machines from harmful emissions. We suggest maintaining the systems at least once a year by our TBH service team that your filter and extraction system can work as best as possible.
Generally, the user has to figure out which dangerous particles are in the air. Normally, when there are no harmful process emissions, we recommend letting the air back into the room. Additionally, there are European guidelines and rules for harmful particles and ATEX, which are also valid when it comes to filter and extraction systems like CMR substances. Users of filter and extraction systems have to observe these regulations, and they have to let the air out of the room, when the used substances are marked as CMR, like chrome steel. There are exceptions for mobile systems, when leading to the exterior is in no economical acceptable relation. In that case, it is to observe that the used systems have an approved refinement degree according to a valid regulation like 60335-2-69 AA, 15012-1.
TBH offers a wide range of "W3" conformity systems. Please contact our sales department for more information.

You can have a look at it for example in the Gestis substances database of the IFA and your CMR list.
The modular design allows us to develop a suitable solution for you very flexibly, and to react to changing requirements very quickly. The system contains several units, which can be assembled individually. This leads to shortened production cycles and a more vast diversity of systems.
The TBH Inspire interface is one of the most extensive interfaces with which you can integrate your TBH system into your process. It has analog and digital signal inputs and outputs. Filter saturated, start-stop, start of filter cleaning, collecting error signals and many other functions are integrated in the TBH Inspire interface. In addition, the Inspire interface can be controlled via a digital RS232. In addition to all analog signals, you have the additional options of parameterizing the system or reading the message memory. The functional scope of the TBH Inspire interface varies depending on the type of system. Find out more on our website or contact us.
There is the basic question arising which access do you have to your controller/laser system and which functions do you need.
Purchased system (e.g., laser marking station):
Please contact the manufacturer of the system and ask which interface functions of a connected filter and extraction system can be used. As a rule, functions such as "Start / Stop" and "Filter saturated" messages are used. The connection diagram of the filter and extraction system can be found in our operating and maintenance instructions.
If you have your own control, you can choose between an analog and a digital control. Functions such as "start / stop", "filter saturated" or "collective error" messages are mostly used analogously. If the controller has more options for data processing, the RS232 interface is able to evaluate digital data such as filter conditions, temperatures, etc. Our operating and maintenance instructions show the connection diagram of the filter and extraction system. We will gladly send you the data commands for the RS232 interface.
No control available:
If no controller is available and you still want to use the functions of the interface, you can choose between a footswitch ("Start / Stop" function) and a wired remote control ("Start / Stop" and "Filter saturated" message) in our accessories.
The German Ordinance on Industrial Safety and Health (short: BetrSichV) and internal regulations must always be observed. In addition, technical rules (TRGS) and other regulations apply, depending on the industry and the substances extracted. The operator of a filter and extraction system is legally obliged to inform accordingly, to assess his workplace and to ensure safe operation. Contact your internal security officer or ask a respective person at the responsible Employer’s Liability Insurance Association for further support.
Initially, please read the operating and maintenance instructions as well as the internal safety instructions. In addition to general installation and commissioning, please check the tightness of the piping to the extraction process and the suction power at the extraction point. Upon request, we can offer assembly and commissioning as a TBH service.
The most secure indicator on a saturated filter is by measuring the differential pressure. A visual control of the filter can often be misleading. Especially modern laser processes create many harmful particles, which have the size of only a few micrometers. This can cause filter to appear new when they are actually saturated. A light test is an indicator. Hold the filter against a homogenous light source like a window, and have a look inside one fold. When light comes through the bottom of the fold, the filter is probably relatively new. When no light comes through the bottom of the filter, it is probably saturated. Please observe the information about safety equipment in the operating and maintenance instructions.
All TBH systems are equipped with a powerful electronic, which has a differential pressure control for every filter. This prevents an overly fast saturation or break of the filter. When the filter approaches the saturation pressure, the electronic control visually signalizes this on the display. When the filter reaches the maximum saturation pressure, the system signalizes a visual and acoustic error and stops the extraction.
The filter change can be done, except for a few exceptions, tool-less by lifting the top unit of the system or its front door.
This depends on the process and the used materials. Please get more information from your local disposing company, on the respective disposing guidelines and the correct disposal.
Every TBH filter elements and systems are especially built to fit perfectly onto each other, and will optimize the filter runtime depending on each process. The capturing and emission rate can vary drastically, and therefore we cannot make a general statement.
The user can detect the level of saturation of the activated carbon by using a specific sensor (have a look at question number six), or by creating odor, that runs through the activated carbon. The odor does not automatically indicate that harmful particles from the process are saturated in the activated carbon. Different substances cannot be absorbed equally well. In a process, gas flow can be various substances and aromatases. This leads that activated carbon soaks in undesired solvents, but aromatase runs through. The activated carbon’s ability to absorb gets less when temperatures are highly above 30 ° C or absorbed substances leave again.
Hydrocarbon, alkenes, toluol, odors and much more occur in various processes as gaseous substances. They are created for example in gluing, cleaning or laser processes. Only in thermic laser processes hundred gaseous substances can form. A wide-range sensor would be needed to observe the activated carbon, because only this sensor can detect even the smallest of these gases. There are sensors on the base of interferometric and the steaming of substances on a heated surface, so called VOC sensors. These can be used with a very wide-range when hydrocarbon is leaving. A disadvantage is, that they are very imprecise and detect only when the work place limits are surpassed, or the air volume stream of the filter and extraction system reduces the gas stream strongly. In both cases, a high odor or contaminated concentration can be created in the working space.
A precise possibility of the gas stream detection offers the interferometric to examine the light reflecting spectrum of the gas stream. Each gaseous particle creates a visible, significant light spectrum to identify the substance. Even the smallest amounts of gaseous particles are visible and the functions of the activated carbon can be checked. Unfortunately, this procedure is very expensive. Such sensors, with an evaluation feature, can cost a four-digit prize. Furthermore, most of them are reduced to only one substance. This means, that each substance in a process gas stream, which is supposed to be collected by the activated carbon, needs one individual sensor. Even with this kind, there are sensors, which can analyze a wide-range spectrum. This is mostly so reduced, that several sensors had to be used continuously to observe a single gas stream.
We are happy to advise you individually in your process and talk about any economically sensible options with you. However, the requirements for an assessment always include the availability of safety data sheets of the extracted substances, quantities and ambient conditions.
The fill of the activated carbon absorbs many different dangerous and odor-creating substances during its lifetime. Exchanging the fill carries out these particles and whirls them around. This creates a highly concentrated cloud of activated carbon dust and gaseous, which contains all the substances from which you wanted to protect your employees and coworkers.

TBH is operating internationally and delivers in virtually all countries around the globe - certainly to you as well.
There has a subsidiary in the North America. In other countries, TBH operates either directly or with partners. Further information are on our contact page.
ESD stands for electrostatic discharge. It is about actions to prevent human beings, buildings and systems from electrostatic charges and from carrying that to sensitive products, which would destroy them. In the electronic industry, ESD is especially relevant. You can get more details on our ESD page.
All TBH filter and extraction systems are made of high-quality sheet steel and are therefore conductive. For this reason, all TBH systems are classified in protection class I for electrical equipment. Devices of protection class I are always grounded with low resistance. TBH ESD such as extraction arms, suction hoods and hoses are available as ESD variations and allow the suction power to be transported to where you need it. All parts of the TBH ESD accessories meet the requirements of modern and sensitive ESD areas.
ATEX is a widely spread synonym for the ATEX directives by the European Union. The term ATEX comes from the French abbreviation of ATmosphères EXplosibles. The directive currently contains two guidelines in the field of explosion protection. These are the ATEX product guideline 2014/34/EU and the ATEX company guideline 1999/92/EG. You can read detailed information about that on our worth-knowing page.
Dangerous dusts create, because of their characteristics, a danger for human beings or the environment. These characteristics could be, for example, inflammability or toxicity. Even substances, which are not hazardous or toxic in solid form, can have dangerous characteristics. They develop them as soon as they are in a form of dust. One example is metal dust.
A substance gets explosive when it is present in the “correct” mixture of dust and oxygen (depending on material characteristics). This means that the mixture is between the lower and upper explosion limit. The energy, which is necessary for igniting the explosive mixture, also depends on the material characteristics of the substance. General preventive measures are therefore always to prevent an explosive mixture and a spark.
PM1 describes a particle size up to 1µm in the exterior air. These are called fine dust particles. They are especially important according to the preservation of health, because they are 99.99% of the air composition. PM1 particles can penetrate deeply into the lung and lead to inflammable reactions. Modern manufacturing processes emit a wide range and vast amount of PM1 particles with a size below 0.1µm. These sizes are so small that they can even enter the bloodstream. Further information are on our "Things to know" page.
Saturating filters are to be replaced after reaching full saturation. Cartridge filters have a pneumatic filter cleaning. This automatically cleans them due to impulses of pressed air, when the filter reaches the saturation. This increases the runtime drastically.
Our systems is build and certified according to construction requirements of the welding smoke directive and similar processes (e.g. laser processes with metals) EN ISO 15012. It is suitable for all processes, which generates metal dust and fumes.
The degree of separation of a filter or an extraction system generally describes how much percentage of a particular particle sizes are held back. The degree of separation H13 means that 95.95% of all particles in a size of 0.1-0.3µm are held back. The test is a defined procedure using a specified test dust. It is a standard throughout Europe. Certainly, particles of other particle sizes remain reliably in the filter.
Generally, the precoating is used for filter cartridges with an automatic filter cleaning. By applying a Precoat liquid (separation liquid), which prevents wet and sticky dusts from remaining too tightly on the filter cartridge. It is like flour, which prevents the rolled out dough from sticking to the working surface.
The particle concentration can be measured with special sensors and measuring instruments for the particle sizes of the fraction PM 1 to PM 0.1. When the particle concentrations are below 1μm, the requirements placed on the measuring instruments and the measuring environment are very high. Such measurements usually have to be carried out in appropriate clean rooms. Otherwise, the measuring devices would already respond to the ambient air or they would have been inoperative after only a few seconds.
